Liselotte Watkins work has inspired me for several years… The linear style of her work inspires my own love of the art movement Art Nouveau. Her silhouettes features the wild hair and natural striking facial features that the Art Nouveau movement perceived as their feminine muse. I would love to visit one of her exhibitions as she has been the inspiration and energy behind many of my drawings.
I discovered Julie Verhoeven a couple of years ago and suddenly realised her work was in Desiner La Mode, one of my favourite books featuring collections of illustrations from various artists across the world. Her work really makes me feel like I’m stepping into her imagination. All the figures seemed to be spell bound or trapped in their own world. So Julie Verhoeven’s work made me think about the setting with which I am putting my characters. The colour choice and the placement of this is vital to the mood created by each piece. Her work continues to inspire every illustration and also other areas of fashion and hue selection I do.
The next question for me is could I translate illustration into fashion…
we shall see!
